Try a different Java Virtual Machine, like the one from Sun Microsystems (http://java.sun.com). Uninstall the one you have currently and install this one. Or if that's what you've already done, then try uninstalling LimeWire and reinstalling it. One of these should fix it... if not, use a different program like Ares. But avoid BearShare at all costs.. it's so chock-full of spyware and adware it's not even funny.

Go to control panel in your start menu and unistall limewire. Download the latest version of Limewire and then install it. This will reset all the settings and hopefully solve any limewire problems. If this doesn't work, check your firewall is allowing limewire to access the internet.

Try these things, and if possible, give more information on your network.
1. Check if you are connected to the network.
2. Check if you have given the proxy address and port correctly (if you are behind a proxy)
3. Many sysadmins block limewire and other file sharing applications. Check if this is the case in your network.
4. If you have a firewall in your computer like Zone Alarm, check if limewire has permissions to connect to the network.
