No.
There should be absolutely nothing sexual in kids books. When they get to puberty and start looking at members of the opposite (or same) sex in "that" way, then an awareness of sorts should be taught to them.

Do you really think young children are going to become gay by reading a book that talks about gay people? Are the "undertones" talking about homosexual sex (which, like others have said, you shouldn't be exposing young children to either hetero or homosexual sex)? Or is it a book where the main character "has two mommies" or "two daddies"? If it's that, then let the kids read it because in all likelihood they have a classmate who *does* have two mommies or daddies. And, if it's something you really want to talk about with the child....and you don't like "two mommies"...then use it as a chance to tell your kid that *your* family has one mommy and one daddy. And if it really bothers you that much to have such material in the schools, then you always have the option to take your kid elsewhere.

An undertone is defined as being:
"what you can work out or deduce beneath the surface meaning of a text"
A subliminal message is defined as something being:
"so subtle a sensory stimulus that one is not aware of its existence but may in some manner respond to it"
Children are naive it is our psychological conditioning and environmental factors which cause us to identify undertones in documents.
Children read text and takes its meaning at surface level. Children should not be givien anything with subliminal messages contained within it [so you can't give them any fairytales as their morals are often subliminal etc)
Do not worry if you think the book is making your child gay; if you really that homophobically obsessed over the matter ask your child to explain to you what the story means. You will see that they don't pick up on the same as you.
Stop being cynical and allow your child to grow up their own way!
CONTROL FREAK!
[Is that direct enough for you?]

This is actually a tough and good question. In one way I say yes (age appropriate of course)my reason for saying yes is homosexuality is becoming more open everyday and were trying to make this a world where people can be free to be themselves w/o ridicule. Then part of me says no this should be a family matter yet sometimes the family is the problem concerning open minds and exceptance but either way I think if this material is presented there should definetly be a permission slip sent to the parents w/an alternative activity for the students whose parent's are against it.

Kids don't need or even see undertones in stories. SEX shouldn't be in kids books, however homosexuality isn't a big deal to kids.

Yes. This is the world we live in, and children need to be taught about different minority groups, and a story book for young children is a good way as any.
Think about Noddy and Big Ears. These books by Enid Blyton... well, what can i say? That is the right way to approach the subject.
As others said, there is no need to include adult content, bedroom activity. Just two best friends living together, like Noddy and Big Ears.
Many gay people have children. These children need to see that they are not alone.
Children should never be taught to hate.
Just my two cents.

I don't think that books with ANY sexual undertone, hetero or homo, should be given to kids at school. I truly believe that the age of innocence has a finite window and should be kept sacred.
I also believe, however, that kids can be exposed to the reality that same sex relationships exist and are acceptable.

Hi there,
There are numerous documented benefits and advantages of teaching children to read early on, and teaching them to reading using phonics and phonemic awareness instructions. It is clear that early language and reading ability development passes great benefits to the child as they progress through school at all grades, and that early language and reading problems can lead to learning problems later on in school.
For a simple, step-by-step program that can help your child learn to read visit this web site: http://readingprogram.toptips.org
Hope it helps.
