very common problem with dial up.
On old dial up modem, communication between your modem and exchange losses packets (information computer uses)
What happens is the modem Sends a packet of information, and if the ISP does not recieve packet, it thinks your connection is idle, so it will automatically close connection after a while, and vica a vers, ISP sending packets to your modem.
A lot of ISP also use TIME limits and you have to reconnect after a time set.
But i thought that was scraped years ago with Broadband
Upgrade to broadband much faster and reliable.
When you say your phone goes dead aswell|?
Are you with BT........ Thats a problem with BT exchange you will need to get in touch with BT and explain the situation
I bet your with Tiscali dial up also........
Time to get into the future of BROADBAND, can work out cheaper... faster

Sounds like a fair use limit - maybe they've changed the way their system works so you can't dial back in for a while? Speak to your ISP company and ask them - it's their number after all. Perhaps it's time you switched to broadband.

Who supplies the phone line then - surely not your ISP? If so, that's the answer. If not, you want to chase someones' bollox!!!
