It sounds like he took the WHOLE day off for an interview. That was the foolish part. You see, SICK is a whole day excuse. An appointment can cover leaving for a short while.

If the interviews are later in the day and he'd have enough time to change clothes (if needed) and get to the interviews you should have him go to work, and then have someone call him up.. doesn't matter what they say on the other end, he just has to be a good actor, look shocked and stammer a bit and then say "I'm on my way!!".. then he can either tell them family emergency or make something up about a relative - his mum, a baby dying.. whatever, they'll be too sympathetic to question it.
For a less drastic approach can he tell them he needs some kind of tests at hospital and ask to reschedule his day, ie work a later shift, work on Saturday instead.. that way it will appear he is being accomodating and they will perhaps work around it til he can get a new job and be shot of them.

depends what time the interviews are its a temp job tell them hes going away for a weekend, it is only temp job and they might get rid of him anyways for taking time off, usual reason for sacking a temp is they are not pulling their weight, ask if he can take the day off for personal reasons.. if he hates it so much why doesnt he just get another temp job? seems daft as that is what it is, a temporary job? good luck!

Truth is good. Most employers understand this with temps. If they don't then they don't deserve your mate's efforts at work.
Of course if he is not a temp but a contract employee, it might be different. Depends on how long the contract still has to run.

Yeah, if i'm ever on the telephone and the communication is going south, gets boring, or I do exactly not opt for to talk anymore my excuse is often," Yeah, that's super! Sorry, yet I could desire to bypass purchase milk." it consistently works!!!, even on my mom!!!!

Tell him to stick with the same excuse as he had last week, it will look better and more convincing, if he uses too many different excuses they will know he's pulling a fast one..
