Your friend sees the red 'X' mark because the location of the actual file you used for editing is stored in your PC, and it's impossible for your friend's PC to locate the file in your PC.

So when you want to send the Windows Movie Maker Project file, you must send along all the original files you used (pictures and music...everything you used). All these original files must be zipped up and come from the same folder.

Here's what you do:
1. Create a folder, call it "Video Project".
2. Under the "Video Project" folder, put your Windows Movie Maker Project inside that folder.
3. Copy and paste all pictures and music you used into "Video Project" folder.
4. Right click the "Video Project" folder and select Send To > Compressed folder.
5. Now you got a zip file, send it to your friend. If it's too large to be sent via email, send it via messenger or http://www.yousendit.com.

it's because he doesn't have the clips to edit, he has to upload the video itself to his movie maker before he opens the file for editing
