First you have to write

and after that you have to said
I never think that you have gifted it to me
I am very shocked when you give it to me

If you write so much long then he/or she think that you already knows that he or she will give you a gift.
You have to write it in your simple paper in present of him or his OK keep not secrete.

It depends on the person who has send the gift, if it has been send by your superior, then you should say i am very grateful for the gift received by me on this auspicious occasion. If it has been send by a colleague or subordinate, you should say that i am thankful for the
gift send by you on this auspicious occasion.
