No, but they are usually very close to being accurate. Mine were always off by one pound. The ultrasound said 2 pounds, and my baby weighed 3 lbs. 1.2oz. She was 2 months early. They are close though.

yes i think they can. Throughout my whole pregnancy i was told that i measured too big for dates.. and at 36weeks i had an ultrasound because of his size. They can tell you how many grams the baby weighs and then you convert it to pounds and get the approx weight. I think it was about right for my baby boy. At 36 weeks he was 8Ib 3 or something and by the time i had him which was right on his due date, he was 9Ib 7. And they do a fair bit of growing in those last few weeks so i think my ultrasound was pretty spot on.
...although i freaked at the time of the ultrasound because he was my first baby, and because he was so big. They measured his head and it measured the same as a full term sized head. That scared me! but i did it all without a cesarean and was damn proud afterwards!! LOL

No, Just remember your baby is floating in fluid so its weightless, it can be close but sometimes its way off. I was worried to death after been told my son was only low 5lb and was scanned every week for the last month of my pregnancy, he was born 6lb 12oz
With my daughter the same thing happened a week before her birth I again was told I'd be lucky if she weighed 5lb that was at 36 weeks and she was born 6 days later and was 6lb 5.5oz.

Hope it all goes well. Its all measurements and the a guess on weight. Good luck.

No my ultrasounds said that my daughter was a big baby and that she was healthy. She was born and weighed 4 pounds and not healthy! Ultrasounds should also not be able to tell you the sex of the baby. Mine were wrong every time, either that or they were read wrong!

They are pretty accurate.. and usually only off by no more than a pound... I was induced because my son was weighed in at 10 pounds during my last ultrasound.. and when he was born he was 9 and a half.. so it wasn't off very much..
You certainly can't expect them to be dead on... but they should be pretty close.

Well after having my daughter I'm not so sure. My doctor said my little one would be small. About 4-5 pounds. She was nearly 9 pounds. Good Work Doc! lol

yes. because they measure the babies head and belly, and let you know the sizing...my baby was 2weks small at the 20wk u/s, and he was a small baby

the midwife at my 36 week checkup, said he would be 2.5-3 kilo's and he came out at 3.09kilos. so i say that she was right
