assuming ur using win xp, probably, go to
Start,>>>> Control Panel, >>>>Performance and Maintenance (power options)>>>>Power Options and ensure that "Stand by" and "Power off Hard disks" are both set to never, or what ever you want them to be.

Hello? (To the guy abv me) How will you goto Control Panel if your computer restarts the instant it boots???
I'd rather think that it is a virus that is doing this crap. So all you to do is restart your computer and keep pressing the F8 button. In the oncoming screen, select "Safe Mode" and press Enter. Log into your account. the advantage with Safe Mode is it will run only the programs needed for windows and not any other startup programs. Therefore some features may not work. But thats just temporary. Once you get into your account (it will look wierd with all icons magnified and the color somewhat inappropriate. Thats normal) run a virus scan and get rid of the virus/spyware. Then restart your computer. If problem presists, it may be due to overheating of processor or corruption of OS. If you had set a shutdown/Warning temperate it will shutdown auto without any notice. So all you have to do is enter your BIOS software (usually entered by pressing Del key when computer starts) ans change the settings.
It definitely can not be OS corruption because it ran normally in Safe Mode. If you arent satisfied enter Safe Mode and contact Microsoft

I agree with the comment about blaster immediately restarting your computer. BUT one more simple option could be the temp sensor for your processor. Usually this doesn't reboot the computer, just shuts it down but it may be related. Also, when motherboards start to die, capacitors could be producing dangerous voltages causing the system to reboot to protect itself.
It is a tuff problem to diagnose without having hands-on time.

If it is auto shutting down, this is caused by a worm called blaster, The error has been fixed by Microsoft, all you need is to get the latest updates, after you obtain the blaster worm fix.

It seems to be a virus problem. Go to Norton web site and get it scanned there. U can get the cleaning tools also from there.

is it putting up a screen first? run your virus scanner. a virus protection software should not be rebooting your computer to protect it from viruses. it would just tell you it detected it and that its dealt with it. sounds somewhat akin to blasterworm.
