I second that, Dyson Uprights are the only vacuums - mine is still going strong - bought the weekend they came out!

SEBO is the world's best vacuum cleaner. I went through cleaners like other people go through toilet paper. My dirt Devil lasted about 6 hours. I have bought just about every plastic crap offered in the store. The longest I ever had a cleaner was a year until now. I bought a SEBO same as commercial windsor-and I have had it for 3 years problem free. It is truly idiot proof. It will turn itself off when your daughter runs over her clothes, its belt is lifetime guaranteed and goes flat to vacuum under bed. I wish I could sell these. I tell everyone how much I love my Vacuum.
By the way it cost about 400 for the base model but I easily spent that in 2 years and alot of frustration. Well worth it.
Also the way I discovered this was by talking to a vacuum repairman. He had intimate knowledge with what breaks and what doesn't. Try talking to someone who knows, You might be surprised by what you find out from a professional.

Electrolux Twin Clean Z8220 Self Cleaning Filter System Vacuum Cleaner. My mum got one recently and it as fantastic. £109.99 in Amazon at the moment. Great suction, no bags - the dirt collects in a transparent chamber that clips off for really easy emptying. It's great to see all the dirt flying round that you pick up from what looks to be a clean floor. I have a Henry but he's old and losing suction now. Will definitely get an Electrolux soon.

NOT a Dyson. I gave my first one the benefit of the doubt and bought another Animal upright Dyson but that was just as bad. Now have got HENRY and he's fantastic. We have some great conversations when I'm vacuuming! HENRY for me every time.

The best vacuum cleaner is the robotic 1 that you put on the floor and it goes round hoovering til you stop it.
Whoever invented that is a legend

I would check the ratings in Consumer Reports. They will explain the different styles available and explain the uses for each so that you can match the best rated vacuum to the task you need it for.

I cannot say which one is the best, but I can tell you that I bought a Dyson and it was trouble from the start. The turbo wouldn't work. I had to get it changed, then the motor wouldn't start, when that was fixed I really cannot say that it wonderful and I gave it away and bought a Philips and am quite satisfied.
