The main advantage of a download manager like DAP is that you can pause your downloads, and resume them when you are free.. Also you can split and download files from several servers/mirrors.. This reduces the amount of stress on one server, and thus gives you top speeds. You can also download many files at the same time.

it is supposed to increase your download spped by splitting the downloading files into parts(and downloading them simultaneously)and resuming files so that you can download say 50% of a file today and the rest later without dwnloading the first 50% again
