My mother is currently going through the menopause. Whilst she was taking HRT she was fine, but she has been taken off it due to risks of breast cancer increasing the longer you take it.
Can anyone reccomend a good (preferably tried and tested) herbal alternative?xxxx

I didn't mean that my mum specifically is at risk of breast cancer, I meant there is an increased risk for all women from prolonged use of HRT, and so her Dr reccomended she stop taking it.
I apologise if the way I put it was misleading.xxx

Dr. Richard Schulze's female formula

Take this with a progesterone cream or wild yam cream

Increase soy products (tempeh/soybeans/soynuts/miso/soy burgers etc --not soy milk or soy sauce though as they don't work for this purpose although they may be healthy food items)

Vitamin E 400-800 IU daily may help.
B complex vitamins are useful in some cases.
Black Cohosh and Motherwort herbs have been tried with some success.
Chasteberry (vitex) is often recommended by herbalists.
DHEA and pregnenolone are natural hormones, but with your risk of cancer I suggest you consult a homeopath or naturopath before taking it.
Good luck!

Mad Roy has given you some very good advice. Or you can consult a Good Homeopath near you and you can totally disregard the advice of Pseudo Scientists like OPUS. The Homeopathic Remedies whch can help the most Menopause are SEPIA, LACHESIS and a few others according to your mothers symptoms and you will find them 100% effective and totally safe from side effects and complications. Please ask your Mom to send me her details if she needs any help with Homeopathic Remedies.
Take Care and God Bless you !

Your mom should check with her primary care physician before taking herbal alternatives too; some people can't take these, especially the Black Cohosh. I did without consulting my doc and it counteracted with the prescribed meds that I was on. I ended up being admitted in the hospital for 2 days.
How very thoughtful of you to think of your mom; I'm sure she's very proud of you. Good luck to you both.
