suppose all the bridges in new york were closed. what effect would that have on the city of new york?

Taking it strictly, the traffic through tunnels and waterways would become extremely heavy. If you meant close everything off? Would depend why and when. If the cause is terrorism, probably terrorism would cause the fear more than closings.. If for 'road works' Parking would be insanity, people would be swearing at the system etc. If it would be a 'long' closing, people would find alternatives to get out.
