I had that problem twice. The first time was a virus, because the reboot time was fast, I couldn't get the anti virus to get rid of it fast enough. Reformatting worked, but lost all my info. The second time was a bit longer and I had a clean safe pc. I finally opened it up and found that the fan on my cpu was clogged up with dust. The moboard was shutting down to protect it. Good feature to have. After a good cleaning of all fans the pc worked great.

you must have unknowingly started the Power Scheme in your os.

Right click on Desktop-- go to Properties--> Screensaver--> Moniter Power--> Power.
In that select "never" for all the three tabs i.e
Moniter, Trn off Hard Disks, System Standby.

Apply the settings and save the scheme. then click ok

If your computer hangs or reboots while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. If it was Ram - it would either not boot or not load that stick and be miserably slow. check your processor heatsink and make sure you are dust free... even in your powersupply...

Its common for people to forget that they have to clean the hardware as well as the software on their computers.

maybe it's overheating, or you may have a virus, there are some viruses that do that. so scan your pc with your anti-virus, and make sure the anti-virus is updated.

You should get your pc checked for hardware defects. If it is OK, then get it formatted and reinstalled.
