Jim Rockford has been named the top television detectives of all time by TV Guide. Rockford, played by James Garner in The Rockford Files series, belongs in the top spot because he was sly, charming and irresistible to fans, TV Guide says. Colombo, the rumpled detective played by Peter Falk, came second. "I love him, " Falk says of his character. "He has a sly sense of humour, is by nature polite and totally devoid of pretension. " Also in the top five are Mary Beth Lacey and Chris Cagney, played by Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless in Cagney & Lacey and Kojak, played by Telly Savalas.
