People lie because sometimes its better than the truth and they are trying to do something good or make themselves seem good... like the whole telling kids about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny....
But on the other hand some lies are really really bad and you should never lie... I always try to tell the truth! in serious matters

There are lots of different lies and in some cases some of them are harmless.
And I suppose you know, truth hurts as well!
I think it's not the lie itself but the actual intention of someone when he wants to hurt you.

Some people lie in order to spare others feelings. Maybe they think that they can't handle the truth.

People lie because they are afraid of the truth.
My dad told me this once... "When you lie, it shows you have more fear in the truth than in God."
I haven't lied since.
