Because con is a reserved name for console.

Because con is a reserved word used in DOS to send output to the console (monitor), You also can not name a folder with other reserved words like lpt1 and dir.

The reason is because of reserverd category. You can not create or rename a folder or file with these names;
LPT
CON
COM
PRN
