Why not go to China in the chinese New Year....
Staring with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year, Chinese New Year lasts as long as for 15 days. Ending with children displaying lanterns on the fifteenth day, the fifteenth day is known as "The Lantern Day". Holding family reunions, New Year in China usually means a family affair. Traditionally New Year in China were marked with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth along with the Gods of household and family ancestors.
New Year in China are incomplete without acknowledging the presence of the ancestors and this is done by a ritual called "The sacrifice to the ancestors". Wearing red clothes, decorations with poems on red paper and everything associated with red, the color symbolizing fire and a source to drive away bad luck is part and parcel of the New Year in China.
Chinese are the first ones to ensure every measure to bring in the good luck in the New Year. Sweeping the floors, avoiding quarreling and cleaning the garbage are some of the activities done in order to bring in the good luck and wealth in New Year. Sharing New Year's Eve Dinner, watching and participating in dragon dancing, lion dancing and folk activities are the other most popular ways to celebrate New Year in China.

I'm going to China and HK too for the Chinese New Year. Best advice is to book as early as possible and stick to your travel plans, as half of the country will be on holidays and traveling to go home or visit friends and relatives. I know myself, I give good travel advice LOL but I procrastinate and never do any travel planning myself, I'll probably have to sleep in a park a few times.

Depends on:
1. Your budget
2. Is you're going alone, with a partner, or with family
3. What season and scenary you want
Here are my suggestions:
1) Budget :
Low - Somewhere nearby, perhaps a beach resort or a highland place
High - Overseas, another continent.
2) If you're going:
Alone - Shopping kinda place (NY, London, Paris) , beach place (Ibiza?)
Partner - Somewhere romantic like a European tour, Italy, Venice, etc
Family - Fun places - Disneyland, disneyworld in florida if ur kids are small, quiet places if they're big and u guys just want a quiet getaway.
3) Seasons:
Summer - Australia, NZ
Winter - Japan, Europe, USA, Canada
