yes its currently very bad here in singapore, our highest PSI reading went up to as high as 150 on one of the weekdays realier. furthemore, here in singapore, the preschools has decreased the outdoor activities because of complaing from parents, its not too ideal for a child yet. i suggest you put a hold first, i can see the haze getting lesser.... maybe in a couple of weeks it will be better... currently the reading is ranging from 50-90 for the PSI
i hope this helps... about KL side, i'm not too sure
Cheers

It's getting a little better (albeit today doesn't look that great). Last night the PSI (the way they measure the particulates in the air) was down to something like 55, and the view of the buildings downtown from my apartment was downright normal!
This haze thing is a little annoying, but fortunately it is only present during the "dry season" when the Indoneasian farmers are doing their "slash and burn" thing as they prepare the fields for planting.
I go running almost every day (about 14k/8.7 miles), and while the haze bothers me to look at, I don't notice any real problems. I grew up in Los Angeles, and running THERE could cause some serious lung-ache (mostly because of the ozone, but there was other stuff in that dark, green, L.A. air that was pretty nasty that we don't have here in Singapore).
One slight advantage to this haze stuff is that it feels a little cooler. 32 C feels a LOT more comfortable if the sun isn't beating down on you as well, so you'll appreciate that aspect.
So while it's not the most aesthetic time of year, it certainly isn't dangerous, especially at the PSI levels that it's been hovering around during the last few days.
By all means, visit and enjoy!

Dear Pinar,
At the moment, it is quite safe to visit Singapore and KL. It is slightly hazy but not at a level that could post health risks to a normal adult. However, the condition might change from time to time but it is not expected to change drastically as based on the wind movements.
As for your young kid, it is advisable to bring along a breathing mask for him/her. Kids are usually sensitive even to the slightest changes and a breathing mask would do him/her good if the haze condition worsens, although it is not likely to at the moment.

Well.. the haze is on a on-off basis.. it can be severe till it reaches a PSI index of more than 100.. and sometimes it can go down to 50.. very unpredictable. Young kids have very sensitive respiratory systems, thus I suggest you to delay the trip to Singapore and KL... I think november would be a good time to come down as there will be more rain in Singapore...

I'm in KL now. It was a little hazy today (visibility < 2 miles) but no noticable air quality problems and no smell.
A big thunderstorm is just finishing which will clear the air.
Unless you knew otherwise, you'd put the haziness down to the humidity.

Can't speak for Singapore but being a Malaysian, I'm glad to say the air level here is safe, therefore it's OK to bring your kid along.
If you're still wary, just have your kid put on those face/ surgical masks available at any pharmacy & drink lots of fluids=)

I've been to Singapore once. It is warm.. I don't remember hazy. The city is beautiful and clean. I don't see any problems taking a 22 month old there.

The polution is worse in San Francisco, the only really bad spot in Asia is Hong Kong and even there 3 days isn't exactly poisonous.
