It would be plain silly. Although it might protect the keeper it would impinge his view and restrict his play. It would also be dangeous for every player going to head in a free kick or any other such activity that would result in a player coming into contact with the keeper's head. It happens many times every week and. Cech's injury was a fluke. Besides we don't want to become like American football do we!!! Football is a contact sport. And they're all well compensated for the risks they take. £100,000 a week and more. The real tradgedy is Mourinho's pathetic reation. - over the top much!!!

It is true that if there was a clash of heads between a helmeted goalie and an outfield player, the outfield player would come off much worse than the combined injuries of the two players with no helmets involved, so on balance, it would be worse. Also what kind of pansy football does babytink watch? Foootball IS a contact sport and most teams don't have the ability to just use ground passing to break down a defence. It would also be too predictable to defend against.

There are "helmets" worn already. Full 90 select makes a soft head gear. I have seen players in MLS plus WNT US wear them. I bought two and let my players wear them. They actually liked the feel of heading with them. Plus the confidence it gave was great.
There will always be the "it's unmanly to wear protection" debate. Which is all well and good. You can love and play the game no need to die or suffer from it. Its all about having fun!

In Theory they should not not need it as football is meant to be a non contact sport and apart from the ball hitting the top corner of the net it should be on the ground at someones feet for 98% of the 90 minute game

they could'nt wear a helmet like an american football one because if there was a clash of heads with a striker, then the striker could be killed or something. goalies can wear lightweight headgear though, its not against the rules but up to the individual

You are absolutely correct if you look at hockey, american football, cricket, rugby etc... all these sport has some form of head protection involved just in case of the inevitable happening so why should football be any different, and what happened in the chelsea vs reading match just proves that.

Stupid idea, a helmet for goalkeeprs would INCREASE the danger of serious injury to other players.

PS football is NOT intended to be a contact sport, the whole point is to retain possession of the ball by AVOIDING contact with the opposition!!!!

dont be silly that would just cause more injurys to other players when they go up for the ball then theyed all have to wear them and thats just silly never gonna happen and as for the accidents how often do you see that sort of thing happen not very often the games been played like this for over 100 years leave it be..

Pro players make soccer look ***** enough as it is, and plus goalies dont need helmits, ive played and any goalie injuries are simply bad luck

goalies are allowed to protective headgear like the skull cap used in rugby ...as it is just made out of fabric and padding it does not cause danger to other .. so under football rules it would be allowed ...... but it would look a bit nancy boyish ...
