The extravagant $20 million diamond-studded wedding cake, created by Mimi So Jewelers and cake designer Nahid La Patisserie Artistique, is the star attraction of the Luxury Brands Bridal Show and will be unveiled on exclusive Rodeo Drive.
I know it is not my $$$ - but with all the hunger and devastation in Africa and around the world, why blow it like that???

I appologize for only pointing out Africa in need, yes there are many more unfortunate areas in the world. I just remembered Bob Geldoff (Spelled wrong for sure!!!lol)and Bono and the Live8 concert....

I'll bet it won't taste any better than a home made cake from my mom. There is no explanation why the 'have's' won't share with the 'have not's', except greed. Take your piece and trade it to some medical supply house for meds for a whole country.

I would like to know if the twenty million actually changed hands and if it was taxed. I understand there is no tax on food products. This could be an excellent method of moving large sums of money around. Almost as good as art works and tax free.
unfortunately it is likely just an advertising prop for DeBoers

I agree 100%, the other night I was watching a documentary on Third Word Countries and the poverty and H.I.V which is rampant because of the lack of fund's and help from richer nations, then Dr Phil came on talking to people who were spending thousands of $ on plastic surgery to make them feel better, I thought there is something wrong with this picture.

I couldn't image spending $20 million on a ring I would wear the rest of my life or for a house I would live in. There's no way, even if I had unlimited funds, that I would spend even close to that amount on a cake.

Yes, because some of the people will eat the cake some will not ,
some will talk good about and some will talk bad about it, but a year or maybe sooner no one will really remember or care about it like you and your husband. If it just for having fun and parting big, go right ahead and have fun and party hard.

I think it's a waste of money - but I also know that it wouldn't cure starvation if they didn't have the cake made. It's a nice wish that hunger should go away, but a single case of lunatic spending is infinitesimal compared to world hunger.

You can't wear it and you can't eat it... hmm.
I guess you could argue that it's art and for some people that might be reason enough. Diamond studded cake or old picture of sunflowers?
In my opinion its a symbol of everything thats wrong with modern society. Its decadent and unnecesary. I can only hope that its creators go the way of Mary Antoinette... (ooh topical)

I read the article on it, and they said it won't be eaten seeing as that diamonds can't be digested.
Considering that cakes spoil, it will probably be dismantled when the Bridal Show is over, and the diamonds will then be put to a more logical use.

There is hunger and devastation all over the world not just in Africa and these people are entitled to spend their money anyway they please. You never know they just might be large contributors to some charity.
