Because it's what one would do were the situation real. Isn't that the idea behind a hypothetical?

Even though it may be a hypothetical situation, in order to acheive a cohesive resolution one has to look at it in a real-world frame of reference, otherwise the answer could be virtually anything.

actually, this whole internet question and answer thing, this whole cyber world is full of stuff which we take for real and which, in reality, is nothing but a lot of pixels arranger on a 2-D screen to make us feel real, so this, ultimately, gets people used to believing seriously in everything, hypothetical or in-your-face-real.
on the flip side, maybe people caught in problems in the real world may be looking for the 'escape' key.

Because it's easier if brought into the 'real' concept over trying to word it in the 'imaginary' one.
And some times, one just is never sure if it's real or not.
If I think it's hypothetical, I usually pass on it.

they may sound hypothetical but they may be real! you dont kno, so stop judging other people!
