I like the way you say "I'm trying for a baby" when what you really mean is - you're shagging a lot ;~)

My periods are irregular aswell. Unfortunately there are only about 2 days between your periods that you can get pregnant, so yes it is very tricky. I have a 4yr old and am now 8wks pregnant. there is no point trying to calculate the 2 days when you can get preg coz it's a complete waste of time. My advice to you is try and have sex every other night. Sperm can live for up to 3 days so there will alsways be sperm in your body, nice thought hey lol!! Don't stress to much about getting preg coz that will only make things harder. It can take some people 2 mths to get preg but others it can take 2 yrs. Everybody is different, you really do have to be patient and let nature do it's thing. If you haven't got preg in over 2yrs of trying then i would consult a doctor just to make sure everythings ok.

My sister-in-law was exactly the same as you with her periods, all over the place. She didn't know what was happening with her cycles from one month to the next, but she came off the pill in March and got pregnant in August. She went to the doctors thinking she was coming down with flu only to be told she was three weeks pregnant. She now has a beautiful baby girl. When they look back now and pinpoint when she was conceived it was in a tent, half drunk on a camping holiday, so you have to be relaxed and not concentrating on it...I know, easier said than done isn't it! Me on the other hand, I'm 31 and have been as regular as clockwork since I was 13 and still not pregnant! So, don't beat yourself up as regular cycles aren't always the answer. Just have regular, enjoyable, and relaxing sex and it WILL happen for you. If you've been trying for a year then it is worth chatting to your doctor to maybe carry out some tests, there may be an underlying issue, most of which are easily sorted out. After tracking my ovulation for the last 9 months and not getting anywhere, I'm beginning to think it's best just to relax and not think about it now and hopefully it will happen, you hear about that alot. Try to forget about trying to track or pinpoint ovulation for a few months and just enjoy being with your partner. I wish you luck and stay positive and relaxed and remember, it does happen and it will happen.

I had this too, I have a two year old now but he took eighteen months to conceive. You just have to have sex very regularly and hope for the best do it 3 or four times a week every week.
After the birth your periods may settle in to a routine like mine now I get them every 28-30 days, well I did but now I am eight weeks pregnant.
Hang in there it will happen.
Irregular periods does not automatically mean there is something wrong with you, it's just the way it is for you.
Of course to put your mind at rest get it all checked out then have fun trying for your little bundle of joy, also stress and worry can be a factor so relax and let nature take it's course I think you will just need patience and the rest will fall in to place.

You need to go see a doctor if you really want to get to the bottom of this. I suffered for years with irregular periods, sometimes not having a period for seven months or more! I wasnt TTC at the time but I was still misreable.
Could be you have endometriosis like I do. Are you underweight or overweight? Those both can cause hormonal problems that would cause you not to ovulate. There are tons of maybe's and could be's. If you really want to get to the bottom of it, go see your doctor.
If that is not an option try checking your cervical mucus. I hear it looks like egg whites when you are ovulating or like someone else says, try an ovulation detector.

I am in exactly the same position as you. A number of people have recommended that I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility : The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement and Reproductive Wealth by Toni Weschler which I bought yesterday. After reading the first 10 pages I can understand why they recommended it, very informative but without the science. Apparently, lots of women have conceived the first month or so after reading the book as it promotes a better understanding of your cycle including fertility signs. Good luck!

Sounds like a fertility problem like PCOS or anovulation. Get yourself checked out for PCSO, Endo and a couple of other things your Gynie will be able to do. Short of that, try an OPK (ovulation predictor kit) and temp charting, I have put in a few sites below for you.
Good Luck!

you can get a thing in the chemist like a pregnancy test it will tell you when your in the time that your cycle is right to concieve. ask your doctor to give you something to regulate your period. maybe go to the pill for a while to regulate them and then when they are the right amount of days etc 28/32 days then come off the pill and try and see if you can conceive.

My sympathy for you. Seems like the people who really want kids are the ones who have problems conceiving. There are ovulation tests you can get and they will tell you. Perhaps you should ask the dr. about fertility methods if you have no such luck. I hope you do get pregnant soon and get your bundle of joy.

Actually, a similar thing happened to my friend. It was because she was on a major diet and her cycle became highly irregular. Turns out one of her ovaries was destroyed. Try to adopt a healthy diet. Seriously. Eat a rainbow a day.
