She is getting bored of all her toys and to give me something to do (on maternity leave so I am at home all day) I thought it would be fun to make some fun toys for her to play with.

Any ideas on what I can make with household objects?

I have made a rattle with an old water bottle and lentils which she likes. I blow bubbles with dishwashing liquid and we walk around the garden touching the flowers and trees.

What else can I do?

Thanks :)

Children love when you talk to them they learn communication and understanding. Puppets out of socks or any material.

Sometimes it is hard for an adult to talk funny like a baby or make silly sounds but it works for children. I always felt if what I do puts a smile on my daughters face then that's the way to go (she is know 24) sometimes the dumber you get the better. You can take pieces of wood all kinds of shapes (make sure they are sanded and not treated with any kind of chemicals) and sizes and stack & build. Balls are a never ending fun. Kids at this age love to let things drop of their high chair it is to see what is going to happen (not to piss you off because you have to go pick it up) everytime it lands on the floor it creates a different motion and this entertains, and entreegs them to do it again A LEARNING PROCESS
At this age I found was the most fun (still never easy & always tireing to raise children) and responsive and rewording.
If you give them love and attention teach them right from wrong and provide for them thats all a parent needs to do, just do the best you can do and they will love you back.

You sound like you are a good parent and are interested in doing good. I'm a mother and I have to tell you this believe it and do not forget this!!!!!!! Children grow upto fast. At first you might not think so cause you wish they can get themselves into the car seat themselves or you wish they did'nt need help brushing teeth or getting dressed. But the day will come when you wish that you had that time again NO MATTER WHAT I prommise you this

PLEASE FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN Enjoy NOW you can never get it back.
Have fun enjoy I'm so jelous I would love to know more I have thousands of ideas. I would love to know where you are I can send clothes, toys,BOOKS. E-Mail me wordchooser@yahoo.com

My girl adores the tin can with a slit in the plastic top where she can drop in the tops to baby food jars. The 'ding' it makes as it hits the bottom drives her to giggles. It took her a little bit to learn how to let go, but once she did she was constantly dropping them in there. Could keep her occupied for a good 15 min at least. Then she's hand them to me, and I'd hand them back to her...
She's also very fond of taking things out then shoving them back in to a large shoe box. There are some of her socks, hats, etc in it and she likes to throw them around her room.

I havent done it yet but since my girl absolutely loves books I have the intention to make my own baby book for her by taking actual pictures and writing the story myself. A story of her and her family, things she likes to do at her age, etc... I'm sure she'd like to see it when she would be older too.

some type of hide and seek game, use small bowls (2) hide an object( big enough so they can't ingest it)under one of the bowls
and let him or her find it, at 8 months old they are really into seeking and discovering whats new and how to's, a coffee can w/ lid (plastic) and a spoon makes a great toy, I recycle everything for my child, good luck

Mine always went nuts for the keys, so I made a keychain using really thick plastic tubing and used all the odd keys I could find or beg off the friends, family and neighbors. I put odd brightly colored plastic bits in a large ziplock bag, filled it with water and put it on the high chair table for them to pat and poke at- moving the things around inside. Make a foam with Ivory Snow flakes, whip the flakes up with a mixer, using a small amount of water and beating it until its all foamy and thick. Then they can swat it, pat it, mold it, whatever. Works great as a tub toy, they get clean and it won't hurt them to taste it! Old bowls with lids are always a hit- with a set that will nest inside one another you can always hide little nibbles in one for them to find. I also made sock dollies or catepillars with the old tube socks and a bit of embroidery floss or colored markers. Stuff them with old panty hose, and they toss in the wash as needed. A large box from the grocery can make a small playhouse- cut holes for a door and windows, and decorate it to suit yourself and her. In a pinch, a towel over a side table or a blanket over part of the dining room table works too. Cornstarch and water is another fun one for the high chair table, in a small baking pan. Fill it half with cornstarch and add enough water to make a sort of quicksand. They can pinch, poke, pat and rake it, it stays just solid enough but then reverts to a quicksand like in the pan. Non-toxic and good until it dries out-then you just add water again. And never overlook the fun of a vaccum cleaner or duster! Yours is a bit young yet for that, but in a few months it will be great fun to dust to music. I'm almost envious of you- my "baby" is now 6, and the eldest is 23. I have a few years to wait yet before I can have this fun again.

Good question and good ideas....I have often wondered how to make baby toys since they are so expensive. I have found that my 6 mo old loves to play with paper. She gets a hold of a piece of paper of any kind and she is content for quite a while!!!

Another idea.....how about sock puppets?? Draw faces on old socks and use them as puppets.

It is probably a combination of being spayed and losing her playmate. It would not be a bad idea to get another cat for her to play with. Many cats prefer to have a companion cat. (Others, however, seem to hate the competition another cat brings into the home.) It sounds like this one, however, misses her sister.

Give her a mirror, she will love looking at the other person in it which is copying her every move,.

Pots and wooden spoon, cant go wrong, they love the banging.

pegs, but watch that she doesnt get her fingers pinched.

A drum set- pans and wooden spoons. Apparently, it kept me entertained for hours when I was a little one!
