Since I work Night shift, I have a hard time making friends, since I am on a different wave length than the rest of the world. My only outlet is the internet. Anyone else have the same problem??

I am a RN....what is your Night Shift occupation?

I love working overnight. I work as a customer applications specialist. I think working overnight is fine because I sleep from 7:00 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Then I have the whole day to myself to socialize, run errands, or whatever. Then I go to work at 10:00 pm every night and do all over again. I work Sunday-Thursday, and I'm off from Friday morning to Sunday night. I love it!!

Sleeping is no problem for me when I get home either. I have black curtains that block sunlight in my bedroom.

...was a night shift worker in a resident treatment facility. Coping was not easy, and this was before internet. I didn't cope too well--had insomnia. I tried to drink a beer after I got off shift to try to make myself drowsy. It didn't work, and I used sleeping pills for a brief time thereafter to see if I could change the sleeping pattern. No friends, and my husband started working the same place so that we could relate to each other in the same time frame. I worked for 1 1/2 years before I took a daytime job. This was not good for me. If I were to do it again, they'd have to pay me a lot more than what I was earning at that time (for my trouble.)
My best advice is to work out a sleeping schedule that gives you time to play in the late afternoons before you go to work. That way you sleep when you are really drowsy, and get your 8 hours in. Then you can make phone calls and see people. I've enclosed a few links that might be helpful. Good luck to you.

I've worked nights for the last 6 years. I find I make most of my friends from work. We all work night shift so kinda stick together in it. I have lots of friends that work at pubs and clubs too coz...they are night shift as well.
Just coz you work nights doesnt mean you cant go out after work, It's just maybe for breakfast rather than dinner. You also have the advantage of your neighbours being at work when you get home so if you have a couple of mates over for a bit of an after work party no one is home to be bothered by the noise!

hope i helped

Sleep Tech 5 years on 3rd shift.... and it is hard in everyday friendships as well as personal and family life. You can meet lots of people through work or locals on line. Then you can start to hang out. I am really good friends with two guys I work with, and my BF is a night owl on the weekends, but the internet gets me through the week. I met a couple people back when I was single(dates that only were friendship material) and I still stay in contact with them as phone buddies . They call when they can't sleep, cause they know I am up!lol

My mom works the night, 7 pm - 7 am and whilst she comes abode she sleeps till she has to bypass lower back to artwork. it quite is not stable and that i keep telling her she can't artwork nights yet she would not pay attention. on the different hand, my aunt works 8 hour night shifts on the comparable interest and all she has to do is take a three hour nap and he or she's proper. Then whilst she get's abode she sleeps for 5 hours. She eats commonly and all that too. My mom on the different hand, never eats dinner in many cases and eats a ton of small risky food at random cases and eats small snacks at artwork because of the fact she never has time to truly consume at artwork. i think of that the night shift is a kind of issues that's in simple terms for some human beings and not others.

I was a "turn worker". I worked all turns before I retired.

I would have loved to have been on steady night turn, as it would have solved a lot of complication from shifting turns...

For sleep, I painted my windows black, then white, so that the heat wouldnt come in and the room would be dark so that I could get the proper sleep and not be grouchy.

For social activities I would attend Church. There I would meet all kinds of people who were the friendliest bunch that I ever knew! Warm and welcomed everyone.

For recreation there were my days off...

I wish you well..

I work security, we do 12 hour rotating shifts. I am on nights now and I start days on Monday. Having friends and keeping friends is TOUGH! Also, staying close with family is hard! They dont call as much because they dont know what shift I am on! It sucks...but it pays the bills! :)

I'm a night shifter. So is my wife. She's an RN too.

We like it though it does take getting used to. I like Christmas shopping at 4am after work...shelves stocked and no long lines.
