I had a normal period just a couple of weeks back. I took the pregnancy test yesterday and it showed I am not negative. I have two questions:

1. Can you really have periods when you are pregnant? I know you can have blood spots, but not a full period, but wanted to make sure.

2. When is the right time to take a pregnancy test (the over-the-counter one)? I know you take it first thing in the morning, but I wanted to see if you could take it 2 weeks after your period. Would this work? Or can you ONLY take it when you skip a period. So basically if my period ended 2 weeks ago and I took the test today, will it be accurate or do I have to wait until a missed period?

I have never had unprotected sex, so I am just being paranoid I guess.

Let me firstly just say that I don't think you are pregnant(if that's what you are concerned about).
Some women can experience a very slight bleed but not significant with a bleed of a period.
This usually occurs in early pregnancy but will stop eventually.
If it were to continue, then it could possibly me a threatened miscarriage.

If you have unprotected sex around ovulation time(usually Day 14, if you have a normal 28 day cycle), you could possibly fall pregnant.
Generally *pregnancy symptoms* can appear anything after 5 days of conception(when sperm and egg unite).

The best time to take a pregnancy test is first thing in the morning when your urine is at it's highest concentrate. The test
will pick up the HCG levels if you are pregnant.

The best time to do the pregnancy test is when you miss a period. If you take it beforehand, you may get a negative result. Some women DO get a slight line appear, but this is rare.

* Pregnancy symptoms* also appear very early.
1) Nausea and/or vomiting
2) Extremely sore breasts
3) Tiredness

They are similar to PMS symptoms but a little more exagerrated.

If you are worried about falling pregnant, my best advice to you would be to see your local doctor and find out the best
method of contraception for you and your partner.

Remember pregnancy can occur 5 -6 days in a given cycle
so take caution to be protected if you don't want a pregnancy.

I just re-read your question - you are wanting to know if you can take the pg. test 2 weeks after your period.
The commencement of your period is DAY 1.
2 weeks later will be DAY 14. You possibly may have JUST ovulated then. No, you can't take a pregnancy test.
It will not show anything. It's way too early.

Hope that helps.
Maybe you need to speak to your local Health care worker
for more info. on this subject.

Good luck and try not to worry.
Remember prevention is better than the cure.
Please....use some protection.

It Could Possibly Be Stress Related But You Could Also Be Pregnant.. Wait A Few Weeks And Retest Yourself.. It Can Up To 6 Weeks For A Test To Show Positive.

Yes it is possible to have a period and still be pregnant. If you are not negative on the pregnancy test then assume that you are positive and you are pregnant.

You can take the test now and it will tell if you are pregnant or not but if you already got a test and it showed positive (the other way of negative) and you should go to the doctor as soon as possible. Good Luck
