If you've taken at least 21 pills in a row, you are protected for 7 days after that, you are not longer protected. That would make sense because during a 'placebo week' or 'week off', the week in which a woman on the pill experiences her period, she is protected. Your body doesn't know whether or not you'll be starting a new pack.

If you have taken less than 21 pills in a row stopped taking the pill or missed a pill, use protection until you have taken another 7 active pills or until you want to become pregnant.

The pill isn't 100% effective. Usually after you miss one pill thought you should wait seven days or use protection.

You're not guaranteed protection, even when you take the pill.
