The place in the world that receives the most rain is Meghalaya province in India. Mawsynram is the name of the town where the maximum amount of rain is recorded. Mawsynram very recently dethroned Cherrapunji (also in Meghalaya province) from the top spot.

The word Meghalaya literally means - abode of the clouds.
