A common problem, though not everyday. Well... the solution mostly depends on the nature of your work. Some works are pretty interesting that drowsiness itself dissappears. Assign to yourself a job that you find the most interesting, to be done during this hour. The other usual methods are - taking a break. Break could be anything like - Going out with a mate for a coffee - Taking a walk as if you want to see if everything is going great in the work place - Go to the rest room, get your face washed - Make a phone call - Check your personal emails, etc..

If this is an ongoing problem, you may need to see a doctor. I was feeling the same way for quite a while. My doctor sent me to a sleep specialist who discovered during an overnight sleep study that I snore and also had sleep apnea and stopped breathing 426 times during the night! Yes, four hundred and twenty six times...not a typo! I was fitted with a CPAP machine and I haven't slept this good since I was a kid (I'm 41 now). No more afternoon naps for me!
FYI: people who snore are 4X's more likely to have a heart attack and/or stroke!

Eat a high protein but light lunch avoid excessive carbs at lunch as these can cause the sleepies. Mid afternoon have a high protein snack like cheese or bring a hard boiled egg from home. Drink lots of water as dehydration can also cause the sleepies

Get a change of scenery, and a brisk walk of at least fifteen minutes. Avoid coffee if at all possible as it is a bad habit to get in to - trust me I'm trying to quit. Follow the dietary advice already given plus increase your intake of fresh fruit. Having an apple or something similar an hour or so after lunch can really perk you up.

What is your age? Are you married or not? Do you get peaceful sleep in the night? Do you watch television upto late night? Are you working on a computer? What type of lunch you take? Are you working in the basement of your office building?
If you answer all the above questions, then perhaps you may find the answer yourself.
Meantime, please come out of your office at least for 10 minutes into the open air even if it is polluted. Please do some breathing exercise.

1. Always eat in such a way that your stomach should be half full.
2. Eat apple. This refreshes you.
3. Walk in a shady place and do not get strained.
4. Watch the traffic on road to divert your attention and think about something else which you see outside. This helps a lot divert your attention.
This has been tried and tested by me. It always works for me.

Try some deep breathing exercises and get more oxygen into your system or try getting up and moving around a little do some easy stretches, just basically get the arms and legs moving. You might even try combining both. If that doesn't work you might want to go have it checked out. There are many reasons that this might be happening.

Eat a very light lunch and take a 15 minute power nap during the rest of your lunch hour. If time permits take a short walk after that.
This should light your fires for about four hours or more.
