Do they want to integrate and how likely are white British people to strike up a conversation (on a bus or train perhaps) with a person who's whole face is covered?

Dealing with the veil is simple. As with crash helmets, hoddies, balaclavas etc. ban wearers from:
Post offices
Banks
Trains
Taxis
Insurance offices
Airports
Garages

In fact, anywhere where CCTV is needed to prevent crime. Faces MUST be visible.
After all, the veil might conceal a terrorist male.

Stop and search could also be used on a regular basis to establish who exacctly is hidden by the veil - a quick sex check and a look for hidden weaponry.

People have to realise that in Britain, masks are worn only by bank robbers and highwaymen. just look at Dick Turpin!

People who insist on remaining hidden must also expect to be prime targets in armed police riot raids.

It certainly appears that these veiled Muslim women do not want to mix with non Muslims - they have their own shops [Hahal butchers, for instance] and their own mosques. In the most part if they do not want to integrate, the way the law stands they won't have to. They complain about being offended by Western society, [half naked girls etc.] and the rise in drinking and gambling, which the Koran forbids.
Why, knowing that the West is liberal and tolerant do they flock here? Why do they make such a point of the veil being part of their religion, when prominent Muslins have stated publicly that it is not a requirement - so whose decision is it? The insecure, jealous husband, who can dress as he wishes, maybe? No-one I have spoken to would wish to strike up a conversation with these figures - and as another answerer has said - how do we know if it is a man or a woman, or what is concealed under the voluminous black folds.

I am british I don't need to ''integrate''. All my ancestry is British and....? Muslims live, study, work in the UK just like everyone else. You want to view it that we are not integrated to suit your own bigotry does not make it fact. Only your personally opinion which lets face it does not count for a hill of beans. Please list what people need to do to be ''Integrated'' in your opinion? Please list the things hindus and sikhs are doing that Muslims don't? Go on humour me? I have no issue at all with being British because I am British, British people are Muslims too you know **News flash** YES I know how dare we white born, bred, raised Brits use our British democratic right to choose any faith we want? How dare we I mean its not like our grandparents did not die for that right or anything did they? Its not like they shook hands with hitler and invited him into the UK to tell us who could live, who dies, what we could read, believe or worship is it? Get over yourself and get a life. How much do the BNP pay you to come here spreading hate anyway? Just curious?

No. It is very intimidating. Again no, I feel they do not want to integrate. I certainly would not strike up a conversation with a person whose whole face is covered.THAT goes for anyone, not only those wearing the veil.

things that musslim women cant intergrate with.
two white women talkin in a sewing factory,Sally: Mary looks a bit down today, maggie: She certainly does, Whats the matter mary, Mary, :Oh I got a big bill this morning and I dont know how to pay it, Marys freinds offer sympathy and support. There is a musslim woman in the factory, in a vail, she is also having problems, but nobody is aware, so theres no compassion, and no care if one sits in a cafe of strangers one looks round for who has a freindly countenance to their face so one can have a chat, but where there is no face there is nothing, WOULD one sit and talk to the wall.Would you employ a vailed woman as a travelling sales person, could one do vital bussiness negotiations without being able to read the facial signs.

No, it isn't possible, because that's not the way we do it here.

But then, it's a bit of an academic question - the real question is "do they want to integrate?" The answer to that is also no for the most part, I think, because Islam forbids the intercourse of Muslim and infidel. Then there's the concept of "umma" (if I've spelt that correctly), which says that the Muslim is not an individual, but rather part of the greater Muslim body.

And they wonder why we don't trust them...

Stepping back most women veil or not might get freaked out if you tried chatting to them on the bus.

Please remove the "white" notation it offends me and I will report it. Followers of islam are all colours. I have chatted to people with African and Asian heritage as well and they felt that its a barrier.

Dont they say most communication is non-verbal?? How are you supposed to pick up on the usual verbal cues?

The girl/woman could also get a lot of grief if shes on her own for chatting to a man. You should read the crazy stories from islamic countries where women who have been raped get arrested as well!

""Rape creates an especially difficult burden of proof for the victim. Shari'ah law only provides for punishment in cases of adultery, if both parties admit to have committed the "crime". If this is not the case, four independent witnesses have to be found; however, the witnesses must be male. In cases of rape, shari'ah rules that a rapist is to be punished with 100 lashes, if unmarried, or with death by stoning, if married, since this would then constitute adultery"

Very difficult to integrate into a culture where reading facial expression is central to [face to face] communication. But why take it out on the Muslim women? Their statement is clear and obvious. Why not target the Muslim mmen and expect them to dress in 'British' clothes, well more or less. I am also 'minority' culture in UK so ...............

Why not target people who make any kind of dress statement. Shaved heads are very threatening in Essex. I don't like aggressive tatooing, exposed male beer bellies, hoodies, long-peaked caps, fighting dogs on chains, students wit socks pushed down, ties akimbo, shirts pulled out of waistband, clerics in religous garb,

No,it puts people off talking to someone who,s face is covered, and anyway i think they feel embarrassed if they try to talk with non veiled people. It,s not really their fault they have to dress this way. Apart from their religion their husbands are very insecure, and like this claus in the muslim religion that the women must cover their faces. Underneth may be a very pretty face, they have nice eyes , so husband jelous to show her off.
