Thesedays, every aspirant has to sell/market himself. Besides being a trusted and renowned fellow either in the field of cricket or coaching, he has to be conversant with different styles of coaching techniques including batting, bowling and fielding. He should be an analyst, a strategist and of sharp mind. In certain countries, he is closely watched not only by the Cricket Board but by the public in general. He should know how to keep patience and carry on with his work.
He is to be an able administrator and a moral booster. Sometimes, an oily tonue also comes handy and is an added qualification.

regarding cricket the coach should know the techniques in all fields like bowling,bating,fielding & also encourage them to motivate, chearup each other during the game.By this skills a cricketer can be selected as the coach of a team.

On the basis of his knowlege about various aspects of the game, his leadership quality, professional skill, human relation, training skill etc.

actually no need of a cricketer is needed as the coach...
coaching / training is entirely another profession...
see all the good students are not good teachers...
all the good players are not good coaches also...

that being a cricketer himself, he would understand the tactics and the players much better than a non-cricketer - this need not always be true though ...
