Best way buy stock using your british pound account Then sell the stock and transfer into your Japanese account. Since it is your account and you are on both this will not raise a red flag. Purchase stock that is not prone to fluctuations. This will take around two weeks to do. And the fees are cost of stock purchase, cost of sell order, transfer fee out of stock and bank will charge a small fee. But overall the cost is marginal campared with exchange rates and the limits placed on fund transfers.

Use your own Bank. Some times companies like Moneygram and such charge a fixed amount and is not worth the trouble.
Also, keep an eye on the exchange rates as a little fluctuation makes a huge difference

Where are you trying to transfer money . For Middle East that i do , i use Western Union and that's to transfer money to another person. If you need to transfer money under your name for yourself to any of the European countries it should be much easier. your current bank can do that for you.
