As the LION KING that person could be considered a "Principal"/"Principle"

Certainly other terms apply for non speaking or short term filler characters, such as BIT, or EXTRA, but in the case of a major charachter, albeit and animal, they are the "Star" in effect.

It's still a role. Depending on the character, it could be a lead or supporting role.

No matter the costume, an actor is still an actor.

Just kidding. I have heard directors refer to them company players. They have no specific part; but their presence in the company is required on stage to make the performance "work."
