Everyone, including myself, lives just for one's own self. Let there be no pretensions.
It is another matter that this same objective gives different goals and different paths to different people - one of the proofs that they are indeed different people.
What really makes things more difficult is the fact that no one is static over time; our own self continuously keeps changing in personality even as we think we are the same person - and thereby changing our own goal posts every now and then. This hide and seek between us and our real self just goes on and on and that is what life is all about.
In short, we live for the ever changing our own goal posts. Sorry, if you wanted a more specific answer than this philosophical view, although I stand by every word I have said.

Now that I have been diagnosed with a terminal disease and know that it's only a matter of time before I go. I live to spend my waking moments to let the people I love how much they blessed my life. Family and friends, specially my kids.I want to make sure they know how they made life worth living.I want to build up good memories and a sense of peace and togetherness.To love.

At varoius phases of our lives we have asked this question , ourselves. This is nothing new.
as an infant I lved for my food. That is about it. Then it was the turn of my friends to live for. Just a step away was my love. Then , a paradigm shift took place . I was living to to take care of my young.
Now, in the evening of my life , as I enter my twilight zone, I feel I am living to die a honourable death.

I just do because I am here. I figure hell, the majority of others are living and they were put here just like me, so I just go with the flow.

you live to know yourself. that is the ultimate goal and purpose of life.
live every moment of life happily,
past is history and future is a mystery, so use the best of this present moment of live, live it fully.
so love your self and all around you.
give and serve to the best of your ability.
and reach your inner self thro prayers.
ultimatly realise and reach GOD.
