I've got an antique plate with the markings M.Z and Austria on the back. The front has a profile portrait of a woman w/ long, flowing dark brown hair. The plate is approximately 12" in diamter and has a dark red and green border with gold trim.

Please photograph your antique plate - both its front and back views, plus a close-up of the manufacturer's markings. Scan and upload these onto your PC.
Now, go to Yahoo! Search, and type 'Antiques+evaluators' into its Search panel and click Enter. A whole list of all those who are available online will appear. Select a few who function in or near your city - and mail them individually [enclosing the pics of your plate], asking that you would like it evaluated...
At least one of them will surely be interested - and after giving the history of your antique, will make you an offer as well.
...Happy hunting !

Take a look at this, the marking on the back is the same as your plate:

You might have something special there. Skip the internet search and get it appraised by a couple antique dealers. Good luck!

You may be able to search for an auction or antique website that may have a forum where you could discuss the item or ask questions.
