4 = 16/2x
2x * 4 (16/2x) * 2x
8x = 16
8x / 8 = 16 / 8
x = 2

Hope that helps.

L = length = 3W - 5 (5 under three times the width) W = Width P = Perimeter = 22 the fringe will equivalent 2L + 2W P = 2L + 2W replace the hot expression for L from above 22 = 2(3W - 5) + 2W 22 = 6W - 10 + 2 W integrate like words 22 = 8W - 10 upload 10 to the two aspects of the equation 22 + 10 = 8W - 10 + 10 32 = 8W divide the two aspects of the equation by using 8 4 = W The width of the rectangle = 4 <==== applying the two between the equations above, remedy for L P = 2L + 2W 22 = 2L + 2(4) 22 = 2L + 8 22 - 8 = 2L + 8 - 8 14 = 2L 7 = L The length of the rectangle = 7 <==== ---------------------- can even have used this expression to remedy for L L = length = 3W - 5 L = 3W - 5 L = 3(4) - 5 L = 12 - 5 L = 7 <====

4=16/2x
that means if 4 is on one side then the other is 16 divided by 2x
take 16 multiplied by 2x so 4 becomes 8x
8x=16
then u will get 16 divided by 8
x=2

actually you can shift terms from left hand side(L.H.S.) to right hand side(RHS) by simply changing their signs. similarly a multiplicative term, when brought to the other side, is divided on the other side and vice versa.
therefore, as you already know the answer, it comes x=2 :)
