Sties can be caused by blocked hair follicle. When they get clogged, pus builds up, and that is why there is usually swelling. Most the time they come with no warning and are somewhat painful. I always use a warm, moist compress to bring the sty to a head and draw out the pus. Never squeeze a sty, this can cause infection. Let it alleviate naturally.

hi Some people say it is a sure sign that your are run down, maybe nead to take or a holiday or rest yourself a little more, others say it can be caused by a ingrowing eyelash.
My mother used to suffer terrible with, and i get them on very rare occasions, her remedy was to rub an old wedding ring over the stie. It Has to be old though, this always worked for us, you could also try golden eye ointment that is very good too, i hope this workes for there is nothing worse than a stie
good luck lesley

My husband and grandson suffer quite regulary with styes, its just caused by bacteria, make sure you wash your hands before touching or rubbing your eyes. Only thing we have found to clear them up is a product called golden eye which you can buy over the counter at any chemist, try it.

I think sleeping in a draft causes them. Try rubbing a gold ring on the sty. Old wifes tale but worth a go :)

Isn't there some kind of minute creature that lives around the eyelashes and don't these cause infection when the bodies resistance is low. I believe salt water is good.
