I'm having problems wanting to do anything. I don't wanna exercise, read anything I used to love. I have no friends I can hang out with or anything like that. Now I believe that everyone has a purpose for living, some mission that each person decides to act towards. But I can't find mine, I can't see it. What am I supposed to be doing?
I'm recovering from depression and a nervous breakdown, so knowing my place in the world would really be good to know. But, how do you find this mission when all other things in your life seem to crumble around you? How do you find your specific purpose when your allies turn on you and you find yourself alone?

It takes a lifetime to know what your purpose is. In my case, I have recovered from depression, forgot about past life but I sill don't know what my purpose is. I don't ask though because I believe that my purpose's gonna come naturally.. If I happen to help people, that could be my purpose but still, I won't be sure of it as it takes a lifetime to know,

Anyway, we have purposes in life. As a human, we are meant to connect to others in good ways like be a good friend while this friend is needing you, be a good spouse or partner, be a good employee, etc. We all get connected to each other to create a better society - our purpose.

Everyone is born into different situations. Some people have more advantages in life and some people have difficulties. Everyone, no matter what their upbringing or family are like have problems at some point though. Your life isn't what you've got it's what you make of it. If you aren't happy with what you've got now, try to make it better. Friends and love are two of the most important things in life which make it worth living. Life is always worth living for these two things alone, both of which you have. Family is also important, however, if you work hard you can achieve anything and get a job, which will help you support any family or children you might have in the future. You can learn from your family's mistakes and not make them yourself. Your BTEC will give you an extra qualification which other candidates might not have and may allow you to get a good job. This, in turn, will help you to improve your quality of living in the future. Try to use the problems you have now as a motivation for improving things for your future. Life is always worth living. You will have happiness in the future if you try to make the best out of difficult circumstances and improve life for any future family you might create yourself!

First of all, the mode of depression is easy to get into but hard to get out of ! It just creeps up without you realising it. I have been there and have come out of it.

Looking back it is funny how one can lose all their interest and energy and basically interest in life. If you are recovering from it, then it is a good sign. I don't know if you have the chemical imbalance type of depression or whether it is the reactive type. However, if it is the chemical type, then you shouldn't feel too bad about it but you must learn to deal with it.

Of course, life is worth living ! We are here for a purpose and we often don't know what it is until it unfolds in front of your eyes. Firstly, as you mentioned life is crumbling around you then may be this is the first area you can focus on mending. You need to address the problem and see how it could be resolved. Whether it is financial, physical or relationship issues. Seek professional help if it is warranted. I am sure if you could work things out around you then it is a good step forward.

As others have mentioned, travelling to new places to see new things may be a way to open your eyes and mind to new things too. Well, I guess you need to consider the cost and all but it is great for a bit of soul searching and you may find new interest and meaning that you have not realised before !

Good luck and keep up the spirit as you are not alone because many of us go through the same phase as you are now. Sometimes I think it is a way for us to learn and grow.

I have now try to take the phrase "live your life as if it is your last day on earth" So live fully and feel bless about the good things around you. That could simply be the fact that you can see the bright sunny blue sky out the window or some trivial things that surrounds us in life! You are a miracle as all life on earth are too !

I could tell just from the initial question, never mind the subtext, that things haven't been so great for you. I understand exactly where you are coming from.

It would be easy to find reasons for existence in a religious sense. Also in a biological sense: we are here to pass on our genes to the next generation. Each, in their different ways are valid paths and I have used both as the situation required.

What I firmly believe, whether there is an afterlife or not, is that life is a learning experience. Now in order to play this game, one has to live so one can keep on learning. At the moment you seem to be pretty low and friendless. This will pass. What you could do (and I did) was to regard yourself with a certain objectivity. It is almost like stepping out of yourself and looking with a constructively critical eye. "This bit is hurting. Why is it hurting and what can be done to alleviate the pain."

The object of the game is to get you into a position where you can be content and happy with yourself. The results are not immediate. It can take years. But it does work and your not bored in the meantime.

Been there and done that. Depression brings the questions you ask to the surface. But you have passed the worst and are ready to come out into the world again.

Our best mission in life is to help others and there many and varied ways of doing it. I keep forests and pathways working. I sail an old Brixham trawler with deprived kids. I write plays and am active in the community. ALL this can be yours and more.

Get into volunteer work in UK and help others.

I used to complain about my limp until I met someone with no feet.

You are going to have to do QUITE A LOT of reading to get through the amazing range, and sheer size, of all the answers you are getting to you question about your mission in life.

I hope by the time you get down to mine you will have noticed there are quite a few people out there rooting for you. Put "Desiderata" in Google, print out and read every day til the end of the month.

I understand what ur going through, I've been there several times in my life.
The purpose of living is spiritual evolution - I mean, this happens whether you want it or not, it's just like a boot camp where you strive for survival and in the end come out stronger.
As for ur personal purpose in life - that can be a tough one : )
Try doing this test: http://www.thedavincimethod.com/
and consider exploring the method if u get a high score (I'm not trying to advertise it or anything - but I really found it valuable, at least for myself).
It may take some time and soul searching, so hang in there and don't lose hope. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for u. Good luck!

My dear friend, I had just recovered from depression. So many things got screwed up ever since that miserable 09.11.01 forcing me to put a stop to my business.

It's been 5 years now and I'm still alive. I can only say, think positive and remind yourself that live have to go on. Just do something constructive that you like.

I found my interest grow after I created my 1st website. Went deeper and discovered that I can make some money from my websites or blogs at blogger.com. http://entrepreneurs-link.blogspot.com/

I know that I have to do something because my bills don't stop there for me. I have my liabilities to fulfill. Just, please wake up and start doing something. You will be able to find it from within yourself.

Spend some time to dig into yourself. Tell yourself that you can make it and wanna make it big everyday and you will make it. Of course you don't tell yourself that you can become a President. Know and understand your own potential. Eg. If I'm a handy man by profession. I'll think big that I'll own a handy man service company in 12 months. The goal must be specific. Never dream that eg. I'll become a boss of a handy man services company 'one day'. This is a lousy as good as nothing goal.

I'll leave it to you to decide what you want, my friend. To all your success and cheers!

Try baby steps if your finding it hard to motivate yourself. Tell yourself to read just one sentence, then one more, then a paragraph, then a page. Tell yourself you're just going to walk to the front door. Then go through it. Then walk around the block. You'll soon find yourself doing the things you used to love and might rediscover the joy in them. Be kind to yourself, look after yourself as you would your best friend and give yourself some time. Remember that this too shall pass, and try reading some Eckhart Tolle for conceptual stuff or Phil McGraw for practical exercises. Warm wishes

hi

well the first thing is to know that your not the only one who feels that way ive been there too and at times you may go back to feeling that way again.
Once you start to feel like this its very easy to go on a downward spiral .
you must try to motivate yourself. i know its hard ,but make sure you get up bath shower first thing to wake you up properly dont just slump in bed or in front of the telly get out go buy some nice bath essence for the next mornings bathtime soak.
get your body back into feeling its alive again then hopefully the feelings to read and do other things will return its all to easy to give up and hide away and to let the tired feeling overcome you
if you start to feel better yourself then you will find it easier to cope with all the normal disasters of everyday life beleive me some times i think everyone and everythings against me too
youve made a start by asking this question
you have no friends you say but there are people out there who dont even know you and are willing to offer advise and help to you
at particular times in your life there is not much happening that dosent mean that it will stay that way get yourself better first when you are stronger and able to cope you will be able to see more clearly what you are capable of doing .
Stop worring about the wide world think of yourself your body is a tiny world of its own get that sorted first as thats what keeps you going
your mind and body come as a package if they get out of tune then there are problems its getting the right balance
with mental stimulation physical exercise and relaxation.
who says you have only a mission in life , you may have many many little missions ahead of you yet
well you may look on this as a load of nonesense but it may give you something to think about
all the best

A natural disaster, all 5 of my children 2 months ago...Hurricane Katrina! I am happy! I am blessed. Because, I still have faith! Life is worth living because GOD gave life. With option, GOD has blessed with purpose to live in Christ and prevail with LOVE. Jesusnus, GODnU. Now there is reason to take out the hope, cook up the faith and set up for LOVE. Get ready to celebrate because there is finally going to be a party. CONGRATULATION! Oh one more thing .....open the Gift HE gave you first. The gift of LOVE. Oh after this party there will be true friends(the ones HE allows ), purpose, and most of all now there's that key. Come On! Open up, shake them fears and stump those sins. I am invited uh? :) I wanna show you this new dance, it's called, Love Prevails! How it's done is take a deep breath of his strength given to you, because you have and you know! And exhale those thoughts right there! Now where is that Key!
