Capitalism rewards innovation, ambition and work, so you get more of it under that system.

That's a good thing!

Just take a look at what Cubans have going for them now under their "socialist revolution". If memory serves, Cubans are on the bottom of the poverty scale in Latin America. They are really bad off in a big way. Is capitalism better? Well, take a look at Vietnam or mainland China for example. They are still officially Communist but people there work their butts off and own businesses and pay taxes to the state and get ahead. Especially Vietnam. In the end capitalism wins out, even if it's nominally under the control of a Communist regime. Will Cuba go capitalist after Fidel dies? Yes. For a couple of reasons at least. The old-line revolutionaries, the True Believers are old and hold only ceremonial power. They are gradually losing their grip. Fidel's brother is a thug. After Fidel dies he'll likely be shot. And the USA is too close and too influential for Cuba to remain even a little bit Communist. I have always maintained that Fidel and Cuba were placed in economic limbo by the US because Fidel had something to do with the assassination of JFK. JFK and Bobby had tried to whack Fidel several times and Fidel hit back when he saw the opportunity. He was probably sorry he did so, especially after he got word somehow that Cuba would be left dangling until after he died. Just watch, as soon as Fidel falls off his perch, the floodgates will open. Cuba will be invaded bigtime by US and foreign investments. Billions and billions of dollars. Even if it wanted to, Cuba would not be able to establish a Vietnam-type capitalism. Cubans have been kept down for too long with the Communist boot on its throat. It will be wide-open unlimited capitalism all the way.

A socialist will retain the free medical care and the free education and so many other free things that are benefiting the Cubans. whilst remaining socialist Cuba never become a pet of America like the UK.
A capitalist will straightaway privatize everything resulting in job losses. crime will go up and corruption as well.
All capitalist elected dictatorships are subservient to America. but a socialist will never bow before king Bush or his poodle Blair

It becoming a free country i.e. a capitalist democracy after Castro would allow the mafia to come back and re establish it as an international vice honeypot. The high quality socialised medicine system would be lost as would the high literacy rate, exceptional in Latin America

depends on the people there. Can they over come another represive gov. Capitalism helps the people, socialism helps the government at least for awhile.
