Yes. I can happen but the odds are against everybody who tries. Think about what is taking place. You are competing for a valued resource (money) against a host of others who have exactly the same aim. Working hard is not enough: single mindedness, working smart plus luck is required.

In most peoples' reach is a decent standard of living without real wealth. This is with working hard and smart.

I guess that you have to define rags to riches. If you were homeless, and you move into the middle class, I would say that you have made it. I do think that is attainable by anyone of any color, with hard work and education. Look at the some of the immigrants that come to this country with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and they are able to open businesses( ie: oriental nail salons, restaurants, small Mom and Pop stores, and gas stations). I think that most people born in this country expect it to be easy, and they are unwilling to work hard. Most people want to start work at the top of the pay scale, they are not willing to put in their due time/ start at the bottom and work their way up.

Only working hard is not sufficient . One has also got to apply Brain in the right manner and luck is also an important factor . People like Dhirubhai Ambani,Azim Premji and Rajesh Pilot have shown that difficult Economic conditions early on in life are a Hindrance to success but can be overcome by Hard Work, Brain Power and Determination .

Yes it could be possible why not :-). I may own the whole world if I worked hard but nothing would really belong to me not even the ground that I walked upon nor my body or my soul cos I am but a tenant in the paradise that God created for a moment in time. For in the end of the day in death would I go as I came into this world naked as a dove my soul will go to him :-).

They have the opportunity, but it does require more than just hard work: there are some essential skills, particularly managing people, and it also involves a certain bit of luck. Even if you correctly identify an opportunity and pursue it intelligently, circumstances may conspire against you. (It happened to me, and cost me a million dollars.)

If someone works REALLY hard because they've set their heart on something, regardless of race I believe you can rise. At the very least you can reach a point where you will be happy. If you're in america that is. well, especially anyway.

Yes, definitely. If you work 60 hours a week or more and save every penny then of course you can rise out of poverty to a better life - but it may not be to "riches" just to a better way of living.

Absolutely. It takes determination, a sound mind, and great ideas. Anyone can do it. The one thing that people forget is that you have to stand up when you've been kicked down and try again. Great success comes to those who truly want it.
