I am a Canadian living in Copenhagen and their seem to be a lot of foreign students here, especially from America.
The culture is a little reserved as far as interaction with foreigners but I doubt you would find that as much at a younger age. They are very flambouant in terms of fashion, I see at least one outfit a day that makes my jaw drop. Copenhagen is a very beautiful city though and the National Musuem is one of the best I have ever seen.
The food is very typical scandanavian: Pickled Herring and....pickled herring. The bakeries are lovely though and they have a lot of organic food available. There are a lot of sandwich places, kabab and buffets.
Politics I don't know that much about. They love the Queen that much I can tell. It is a very good model socialist country but with extreme emmigration policies right now.
Nightlife is big. Danes like to drink until they fall over. And mix drinks too. People also just like to sit outside by a fountain downtown with a 6 pack with their friends. There isn't a lot else to do here really. Things are very expensive that I would do for fun in Canada, like sushi and movies. People tend to go to parks and hangout but it is getting a little chilly for that now.
If you come you will want to get a bike. Transportation here is bicycles. I do like that aspect of life here.

I just got back from 2 year stint doing a masters in Aalborg...Denmark will always hold a special place in my heart.
When I went there, school was free, as was health insurance...not sure that is the case now...classes are in english...
I lived in a building, 150 people, I was the only american, the best experience of my life. 300 USD a month for the room.
the food is not the best, heavy on the pork....smoked salmon is nice, but expensive. Witnessing the social welfare state in action is amazing....the wages there are incredible (15$ an hour minimum)....
Danish people can be nice, but perhaps a tad xenophopic...but the EU students make the whole thing worth it....
bottom line, if they want you to pay a large sum for the schooling, could be worth looking into other options, but Denmark is a special place, whatever others might say.
drinking in nightclubs is ridiculously expensive....everyone drinks in the streeets with beer from the grocery...if you are interested in things other than beer, the hippies in thisted can help, as can the kids in christiania (A must see, could be gone soon) ....it snowed in the winter, and the snow stayed for til april....the days are super short in winter....
I did a Humanities style program at AAU....it was higher quality than big land grant schools in the USA, and the amount of academic freedom is amazing. most kids there were studying mobilie comm and IT....

Speaking from experience, one of my best times ever. Great thinkers (Denmark is top 10 in terms of GDP, competitive economy, equality and e-readiness etc). Coppenhagen is a great place, and Sweden, Norway, Germany arenot far.
Climate, expect quite little sunshine by December, but doesn't get below freezing much, other than a steady wind and changing weather.
Expensive to live there, good food, drinks, fun people and plenty to do, once you immerse yourself.
