I'm guessing here but maybe it's the American influence. Both Japan and South Korea have had friendly relationships with the U.S. since World War II, and both still have significant U.S. military presence to this day. China has been on "the other side of the fence" from the U.S. for a long while philosophically.

Few in China follow baseball, yet in Taiwan it's the top sport. The island's Little Leaguers won 17 world championships from 1969 to 1996.

In China, baseball is considered an intellectual game. It's also considered a game for developed countries, because of the money needed for special equipment and playing fields -- unlike the more egalitarian soccer.

The Japanese were taught baseball by the Marines after Japan was defeated in WW2. We had gazillions of them in prison camps and to keep them occupied, we taught them baseball. Koreans have been associated with US troops for 50+ years and we taught them so we could have people other than other US troops to go up against. The Japanese are a very competitive people; they like to take on opponents that others would think would defeat them. I don't know much about Koreans, except for that kimchee really stinks.

I would venture to day that the reason is that we have occupied these countries and not China.....but give your man Bush a little time and maybe we'll be there soon!!......point here is really that I am sure "GI Joe" had something to do with the introduction of baseball to these countries.

Keith is absolutely right. It has to do with the America's influential pop culture. Japan tends to be more inclined to Westernization than the others. Hence, adopting more American sports and culture.
