More than 5 years. My first one probably still works. If it has a ball, and jumps around, it probably needs to be cleaned. Take out ball and clean the rollers.

It depends on the quality of the mouse, of course. Most cheapish ones will last around 4 years or so, depending on amount of use, the condition you keep it in, and the quality it is.

My Microsoft Intellimouse averages 2-3 years.

it depends on how u will use it and i suggest optical mouse than the ordinary ones.
