being with him but he doesn't care you exist hurts the most. It is an emotional void that will continue to grow larger and be harder to fill. There is NO light at the end of this tunnel. I had a boyfirend that did that to me, he stood me up, cheated on me and such and it spiralled me into bad depression of worthlessness and lonliness.
My hubby is in the ARMY and is gone a lot for training and now his deployment, but I am not nearly as sad because I know he will always be there for me emotionally when he can't be here physically and WILL come home to me. Ther IS a light at the end of this tunnel.
:)

The problem I see is most people seem to be answering as if they have both situations and simply have to choose the better of the two. I'll go at from this angle, I have one of these two possible scenarios.
The one with me who doesn't love me hurts but I can assume that there is something going on between... possibly a physical connection. Lust. Love may not be there, but physically my needs are being met. My emotional and mental needs may be shortchanged so the pain could be bad but if I'm getting something out of the deal... ay me!
The one who loves me but is far away cannot give me physical satisfaction but when we talk on the phone is able to cheer me up and satisfy the emotional connection I require to enjoy life. When the conversation is over, a void is left and the lack of physical satisfaction becomes a dull ache. Even with the love being true... at a distance it is difficult to consumate that love.
So... I would have to say, the second one would hurt the most. That is not to say it wouldn't be worth enduring if you know that someday it will become close contact...

G'day Lady Bernd,
Thank you for your question.
The first would hurt more as you love someone but they don't love you.
In the second, you love each other and can visit each other and catch up over the phone or by e-mail. I knew a girl at work ten years ago whos boyfriend was posted over in Egypt as an Australian diplomat while she was back in Australia. They ended up back together.
Hopefully, you will be with a partner who you love and who loves you.
Regards

The first one. I know you don't care I exist which hurts so much.
I also know everyone cares so much for you (near and far) which just makes me green eyed.

My situation now... the second one. I've done the first situation twice, it's no good that way. I have learned that I can love from afar... without even having contact. It is enough to know my loved one is walking the Earth, and thinks of me.

I was just recently away from my spouse he had to leave town for three days, and that hurt both of us because we have not been apart in twelve years. I can't handle not being without him. I think that hurts the worst for me.
