I can understand your dilemma because I'm in the same boat. But I'm returning to school for my bachelor's degree and will be able to leave my current job after I graduate in December. I'm also a 43 year old with 2 children at home.
Have you considered going back to school for a better degree and then moving on? My job sucks, but knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel gets me through the tough times.

You need to tackle the situation, if you dread your job, or actually hate it, you will grow tired, sicker and will have major burn out, you need to either find ways to make it better and feel good while at work, or definitely find something else that will pay you just the same or more. It will require time and patience.
How long have you been at the job? and if there is no way they can switch you and you hate the shift, it is a difficult thing, not being able to sleep regular hours, your body never really adjusts, and you pay the price, you need to consider going to school for a new career or take your time finding a job that's equivalent to the one you have, customer service positions are difficult, people's attitudes have definitely changed for the worse and it's one of the most difficult jobs, people are intolerant, impatient, nasty and want things right and they want them now, did you not know that hun? If you are so burned out, do consider a career change, what do you like to do? Ask yourself. You'll have to be very patient as you need to payoff your debt and have something ready before you make a move. You may have to suffer a bit, it's hard going through a major change, but you must make it in order to make things better, you have to be willing to take a chance and get the courage to make it happen, I strongly suggest you read some really good books, while at work if you are able to, books on self help, motivational tools, get the book:
Awaken the giant within, by Tony Robins, and Seven secrets of success Steven Covey, look them up through Amazon, you'll be very glad you did, find those tools to motivate you and make you succeed, you have what it takes to make it, the longer you remain unhappy, miserable, burned out, sick and tired, the worse you will feel, take the bull by the horns and do it. Take action, go look for that job during the day, you have those hours, which are ideal.
Good luck!!

I can understand where you are coming from, I was holding two jobs and my primary one was getting very stressful, but it payed the bills, while the second one took care of some debts.
What I can suggest is that you take a good look at what debts you have, figure out how long it's going to be until they are paid off and the decide if you can stick it out that long. If you can't, then decide how long you CAN stay there for and start looking at other jobs. You don't have to quit your current job just to look at other ones....there may be better opportunities available!
I wish you the best of fortune.

Relax. Consider all the reasons why you do your job. Now, list all the positives and negatives you find in your job. Look at your negatives and see what you can do to address each of them. Then do what you must to make each work day a pleasant experience.

At least you have a job. I've been unemployed for almost 2 years and have been rejected by everyone I interview with. Check out some of the rejections here:

Honey.......u better get out of this job n find a new one.
Is money your sole motivation? or r u mature enough to manage yourself & your finances?
The danger is a long term damage to your mental state..........n the effect of continuous stress on you!
Money could buy you a new car, a new dress or even a new home............but it will not buy you a new YOU!
If you feel bored......miserable.......unhappy.........n in fact a complete reluctance even to start to go to work.............then..... my dear, quit! (.............n try to work out your fianances in your best interests.)
........or soon you'll become damaged goods..........n you'll be of no value to anyone!

Well weigh your pro's and con's if you find there are more pro's than con's then stay. If the con's out weigh the pro's then get out. If it is the pro that wins then you will have to put up with the complaint's and find out what you can do to help them with thier indivdual problem.
