Make sure the air filter is replaced, also spark plugs and your tires are properly inflated. Use some sort of carb/injector cleaner (gum-out stp etc) on a empty tank than fill the car using mid-grade (89 octane) this will clean your fuel system thus giving you better gas mileage and you car will run better. Also take out unnecessary weight out of your trunk and back seat. Don't accelerate too fast and don't brake hard when driving down the highway make sure if it has overdrive that you are in that gear. Hope this helps you

These things did get pretty good milage. You don't say what you are getting now, but if you're getting less than about the mid 20's, there's a problem. You may have a sensor that is bad. If the check engine light is on, that's almost certainly your problem. Otherwise, make sure you keep the tires pumped up to what the book says and keep changing oil and air filter when specified.

Do all the maintenance.
Oil change, air filter, fuel filter, plugs, check your tires, brakes and all fluid levels.
Sold a '90 Lumina 4 cyl last year that got 28mpg until the coils went bad.

There is little that you can do to improve the fuel efficiency of any car, except to use the lowest grade of gasoline which is suitable for it and keep the tires properly inflated and the air cleaner clean. If the gas mileage is really getting to you, get a different car. (We just bought a Honda Civic hybrid; it works well.)

The low cost way is to; Replace the air filter & spark plugs, inflate the tires to maximum pressure and replace the engine oil with AMS-Oil. This will give you 2-5 more MPG. In addition, you could change the computer chip and get a full tune up for more money.
