I had a sharp pain right at my sternum, was the only sign. It literally felt like my sternum was put into a vice grip. Lasted for about a minute. I was not stressed at all. I don't have a cold or feel sick at all. My sternum is still very sore. This happened over 24 hours ago. Any ideas of what could cause this? I am 31 years old.

I had the same problem a few years ago - I was 32 at the time. It ended up being a rib out of place for me. Give it a few days and see if it improves - if your rib did shift, you could have pulled some muscles there and that takes time to heal. If you still feel it in a week or so, consult with your doc. My doc sent me for tests and told me there was nothing wrong with me - it was eventually a chiropractor who helped me.

It could be a number of things. I suffered from strange chest pains too they started when I was 25 and in total health. I finally got diagnosed with acid reflux which was controlled with the help of exercise, foods and medications. It could also be a form of panic attack, or gallbladder problems(do you feel any pain in the middle of your upper back?). But for me, they pain was still coming back and finally after insisting that the doctor send me to a cardiologist, they did and echocardiogram and a 24hour halter stress test to find out that I have mitral valve regurgitation, which is a leaky heart valve due to a genetic defect. At your age, if you take good care of your health, you shouldn't be having pain in your chest. I would certainly go see your doctor and have it checked out, even to be on the safe side. Genetics can sneak in to add things you wouldn't expect, and even at 31 women can have problems that lots of doctors try to pass off on us as us being paranoid, don't let your doc's walk on you and insist that they check you out. It is much better to be safe than sorry for not getting medical attention.

Hi Salinas,,,,

Whatever it may be

It is better that you consult a doctor. Iam saying this becaues there cud be more than one reason to have chest pain. That is because many part are accociated directly and indirectly with or beneath the chest...

So it s better to get advice from a good doctor rather than posting in Yahoo ...

That will help you.....and also try to detect whatever it is at the earliest...which prevent chronic problems.

Acid reflux.
It is the majority cause of
1. Chest pains
2. throat discomfort/trouble swallowing
3. Intestinal discomfort.

Many, many people have it to some degree.
If the pains return, take prilosec (and it always
helps to consult the doctor!).

Well you could be experiencing some indegestion. It can act that way. Have you checked your blood pressure. Even though you aren't stressed you could have high blood pressure. Either way, i would recommend getting it checked out for your own piece of mind. I hope you feel better.
