yes, AOM is great, if he has a thing for mythology from the greek, norse, egyptian past.
its all a modern form of chess if you ask me, so all are good (such as those mentioned in the answer above)

Like Myth, AoM is a realtime strategy game, and very well done. Civ is turn-based, so fans of realtime may not enjoy the pace and depth. I don't know about Risk, so I'll withold comment.
Your husband should enjoy AoM. Rise of Nations and Empire Earth may also be worth looking at.

Age of Empires is a far better game than Age of Mythology.
