Okay recently my friend confessed to me that she's head over heels for a mutual friend of ours, and i have to say i was sorta shocked because we both know he has feelings for another girl, plus im suprised to find that she has feelings for him since they've always been good friends. I think shes mistakiing friendship for love.

Then again i notice that a lot of people on this site ask similar questions in which they develop feelings for a friend of the opposite sex.

Is it possible to have a friendship btw. a guy and a girl with out having romantic feelings involved? Or is the only reason why guys and girls become friends is so they can hook up later?

Yes it is possible.

I have maintained several good friendships with girls for years. it really depends on the maturity of the people involved. The idea that a guy and a girl can not simply be friends without complications is a myth that must be dispelled.

Usually there are mixed up feelings. Things can get complicated and ruin a friendship. You may be able to control your feelings, but he might not (or vice versa). Yes, it is possible, but risky. You may consider drawing a line as to what is appropriate and what is not. There is nothing wrong with loving a dear friend. I wish you the best of luck.

Yes, it is possible for men and women to just be friends without looking for a hook-up. I have several female friends that are just that -- friends. And it' not because they are unattractive; quite the contrary. We have just known each other for many years, get along well, and enjoy each other's company. We are also all married and would never hurt our spouses by cheating.

Definitely possible... since childhood i've had more male friends (being female) than girls. Not until adulthood did any of these friend boys turn into lovers (and only one did, anyway). I have female friends who i love dearly, and still have mail friends who i love dearly also.
