I think there are alot of bad things out in the world that one would not want their children to know existed, not olny because they could pick up a bad habit or addiction, plus also because it can take away some of their security and make their chidhood a little less fun then when we were growing up. But that is society these days and one has to warn their children repeatidly about drugs, abductors, guns, so on and so forth. TV brings alot of those images closer to home on a more daily basis. For example violence, is everywhere these days from cartoons to soaps to evening tv, so children really need to see all that violence. For once I would like to see a 5 year old boy play with his friends and not pretend stab or shoot at each other. Is all this stuff still out in the world...yes and in some places more than others, but I feel TV is a big part of it as well, unless you have your vchip set, but even that does not keep out it all.

I'm a media studies major and the studies show that children are not totally vulnerable and copy what they see on television. Children have their own sense of agency and they are perfectly able to sense the difference between reality and that which they see on television.
I'm not saying that you should let your child go ahead and watch any violent movie they like, but you have to realise that a simple cartoon like the simpsons is not going to become a bad influence on your child. A childs perception of reality has long been put under scrutiny. But the facts are that children pick up more violent and risque behaviour from their parents, friends and environment than they do from television...
By the way, I've been studying this topic for three years, and written more essays and done more research than some people have had hot dinners on here. I think I have more credibility in this field than anyone else on here.

No. What is bad influence anyway? They are influenced in a way, so what? We already have some TV generations, and I don't think the world is worse than it was before TV.
Personally, I used to watch horror movies at the age of 6, and I am completely normal. Just because I'm writing this from prison, it doesn't mean I'm deviant. ;)

It depends on what they watch. It can be a good influence or a bad influence.

Only if parents allow it to be. Parents are now able to block certain channels out or they could opt to not have cable at all.
