It was an absolutely breathtaking, emotionally rivetting, artistic spectacle that was for some reason universally panned by critics. Why?

G'day Jonny R,

Thank you for your question.

Ultraviolet was released early this year. It was widely criticised for its plot, for lack of originality and also for its editing.

Apparently, the DVD has added additional minutes. It is probably worth seeing on DVD as that makes the intentions of the director more clear.

I have attached sources for your reference.

Regards

The film Ultraviolet is a great premise and has some props here and there but it's a near complete failure of a film. WHY? Because of the studio that green light this movie. Information has been exposed that writer/director Kurt Wimmer's vision of the film was cut by the studio by over 30 minutes, 30 minutes that are actually very important to the story, characters and action. So wait for this film to come out on DVD, because the shorten 88 minute verison of the film will totally disappoint everyone. Give this film a chance, when the director's cut comes out, I will Milla Jovovich was very sexy and bad *** in this film, hopefully she will continue to do such films.

I love sci-fi and Milla Jovanovich, but this movie was made on a fourth graders lunch money. The story must have taken a whole 45 minutes of study hall to come up with. The first 5 minutes of the movie will have you awe struck especially watching the back end view of Jovanovich naked, but even this couldn't make up for the cheesy acting and ..... plot....excuse me, there was no plot. I won't spoil the movie for you, but if you are into donations please visit your local animal shelter. I wish i kept my $5!

because that movie was crap. ti was an amalgamation of everything big in movies in the summer, corrupt govermnt/leading badass lady/ psuedo revenge story/ more cg than actual plot, and 2 dimensional chars. that movie was pure epic garbage, it was part of whats wrong with mainstream american cinema nad as for "breathtaking action" uh no, wrong. that cinematography was junk. if you wnat an actualy good fight watch bladerunner, seven samurai, or takashi miikes dead or alive. those have some truely breathtaking fihgts, and actual plots.

Maybe since it was called ultraviolet they thought that her hair would stay that color. My family memebers did not like it because of the hair changing they did on it. Me I liked it. I thought that it was a great movie and have watched at least 4 times.

listen i like ultra violet to but it came after aenflux and because if you compare the 2 you will have to admit aenflux is better that is why . if ultra had came out before ean it would have gotten much better reviews and maybe ean would have gotten the bad ones. because thes 2 movies are in about the same legeau if you look at them both side by side

If I knew who you were I'd spit in your face. That movie was God-awful. Everything in that movie was cheesy and insultingly cliche. Not to be a jerk, but you have no taste in film and are easily amused. Watch Cowboy Bebop or Trigun for starters, but if you really want to get sophisticated I recommend Akira, Blade Runner, SE7EN, or Vertigo (AND ALWAYS USE SUBTITLES).

Put simply, it was badly made and had far too many corny scenes in it.
